Main ways to relocate to Austria
There are over 16 different types of residence permits and ways to relocate to Austria depending on what you would like to do, your qualifications, and your financial status. Below, you’ll find the most common among them.
This is for you if...
You have enough financial means to support yourself and your family without relying on an Austrian employer.
Unlike other categories that don’t have a limit for accepted applications, there is a fixed number of migrants accepted on quota immigration per year.
Advantages:
- Your family can apply for the quota immigration with you, and if the applications are accepted, you can move to Austria together
- Your permit doesn’t depend on your employment in Austria, so you don’t have to worry about your work contract being extended every year
Whom is it for?
You want to study at an Austrian high school or university.
You’ll need to apply for a residence permit – an equivalent of a student visa / study permit in other countries that doesn’t allow full-time work authorization.
Advantages:
- Initial investment is also suited for a smaller budget
- A great way to “test the waters” before deciding to move to Austria with the whole family
- If you later graduate from a university with a Master’s degree, you’ll qualify for a residence permit with work authorization
This is for you if...
You have an existing job offer from an Austrian company or have high-demand qualifications and professional background.
Advantages:
- You’ll be allowed to work in Austria right away
- You can also bring your family members to Austria with you, and they’ll be able to get work authorization as well
This is for you if...
You bought an existing business keeping the number of jobs or registered a new business in Austria. In both cases, your business has to provide at least 5 jobs to the EU citizens.
Advantages:
- No minimum investment amount
- You’re allowed to work while living in Austria
- You can bring your family members with you
